The future of the Saints Row series is unknown
After the sales of the recent Saints Row remake slumped , the future of the series is uncertain. Title owner Embracer Group has previously acknowledged the game's mediocre commercial reception, but this is the first time it has admitted that the remake underperformed with a "sub-par" return.
In its third-quarter 2022 financial report released yesterday, Embracer Group revealed that, in the wake of the disappointing performance of console and PC games, the company has changed its policy towards greenlighting new projects. While it didn't mention Saints Row specifically, the company made it clear that moving forward, "every project must earn its right to exist," leaving a big question mark over the series' future.
The Embracer Group has acquired a number of gaming companies and IPs but has had little success with them. The company has acknowledged that it needs to "put quality first" and provide "unique and positive experiences for players". Where she said:
“We have increased management focus and efforts to further improve investments and efficiencies across the Group. To put it simply, every project must earn its right to exist. Which means we will increase our efforts to put quality first, and make sure we create unique positive gaming experiences.”
The series has generally been positively reviewed for generations. However, the remake version that was released last year did not live up to the required level, especially in terms of sales.
