In the report, it was determined that four of the world's largest tech giants had considered acquiring Nuvia. Sources close to Nuvia say that Microsoft, Intel and Google, as well as Qualcomm, have considered acquiring the company before January 2021.
Considering that the first Google Pixel phone with a Tensor processor is the Pixel 6, which was launched at the end of 2021, it seems clear that Google was looking for a way to develop its division focused on developing microprocessors, and the acquisition of Nuvia could be a clear push forward. In this sense, it is worth noting that two of the founders of Nuvia have actually worked for Google in the past. In fact, one of them was involved as lead in the development of an unspecified project, which was later revealed to be the Tensor processor that Pixel phones are now powered by.
Finally, Qualcomm acquired Nuvia in January 2021 and this year introduced the first CPU based on Nuvia technology, called Qualcomm Oryon. This processor is expected to hit PCs and desktops first, before moving to other platforms, such as smartphones.
